Sammy Gonzalez aka Magic Tusk is back with a ripping second effort, ‘Beyond the Crescent Moon’! Serving as a spiritual successor to ‘Behold, Her Majesty’, Magic Tusk takes this next release to new heights shedding the calm and soothing sounds of the debut EP for an eclectic, bombastic, and riff laden prog odyssey meant to spin heads.
‘Beyond the Crescent Moon’ is a deep dive in navigating one’s fear and pushing one's awareness of self. Songs like ‘Empire oh Empire’ are about facing one's fears and embracing their pain to conquer life’s hardest trials and tribulations. From a humble upbringing and childhood to a fruitful career as an educator and local musical powerhouse, the healing quest for Sammy has been using music as a tool to safely express himself, as well as creating opportunities and furthering musical education for children who are in the position he once was in.
Since the release of the debut album, Sammy has thrived in a beautiful new chapter of his life filled with marriage, fatherhood and security that he couldn’t have imagined in years prior. However, peace and tranquility have not slowed him down. They’ve inspired him to keep pushing forward on his accomplishments and even more so inspire him to continue pursuing music harder than ever.
An interesting anecdote about ‘Beyond the Crescent Moon’ to highlight: this album features two students who Sammy taught and mentored since childhood. Playing bass on this album is Sydney Greenwald, a current NYU student and audio engineer who has taken classical guitar and bass lessons since she was 6 years old. On the drums is Harry Schwartz, who has made a name for himself in Miami by playing drums for countless bands and youth music programs since he was 12 years old.
Magic Tusk’s ‘Beyond the Crescent Moon’ was recorded by Ryan Haft (Jacuzzi Boys, Wrong, Capsule) and features Sammy Gonzalez, Sydney Greenwald, and Harry Schwartz. In addition, this album is packaged with epic art from Juan Montoya (Torche, Killer Be Killed).

As has (rightfully) already been said elsewhere, this band and album are "absolute fire."
Despite the doom-gloom cover art, this type of rock music is a positive force. Especially without vocals, which for me is a bonus. Dale Lloyd
